RS Sodhi, Managing Director, Amul, said the company would expand its business in the state. At present, Amul has four plants in Manesar, Dharuhera, Rohtak and Faridabad with the capacity to process 50 lakh litres of milk every day, which is the highest in the region after Gujarat
Haryana has a big market for milk products. So, we are exploring options to establish more plants,” Sodhi told The Tribune at the NDRI before delivering the Dr NN Dastur Memorial Oration
He, however, refused to divulge the number of plants in the pipeline
Amul is processing 250 lakh litres of milk every day in 70 plants across the country and is processing about 8.7 million metric tones of milk of the total 176 million metric tonnes of milk production in the country,” Sodhi said, emphasising on the need to increase the share of raw milk in the organised sector
He stressed on increasing the budget for the animal husbandry sector. “The dairy sector contributed 30 per cent in the total GDP of the agriculture, but its share was just 4.2 per cent
Sodhi said adulteration in milk and milk products was a big challenge. “The sector has developed several mechanisms to determine the adulteration, but there is a need to check the adulteration of vegetable oil in milk and milk products with the help of an affordable and easy-to-use mechanism,” he added
